Knockadoon Ecology Camps began in the late 1970s. Throughout the 1980s
these summer, residential camps brought Irish teens into contact with
some of the most beautiful Irish coastlines of County Cork. Located
just south of Youghal, the Knockadoon ecological environment is vibrant
with diverse sea, costal and land habitats - providing an excellent
natural learning environment for anyone with an interest in ecology.
The 2010 Camp is from June 12th - 19th.
The Knockadoon
Ecology Camp provides a powerful learning environment for Irish teens.
Our 6-day programmes and activities will take them through all of the
Higher Level Leaving Certificate ecology fieldwork (and Junior Cert.)
while providing a fun and unique learning environment, specialising
in sea-shore ecology. Based in the Dominican Retreat Centre at Knockadoon,
Co. Cork, the Knockadoon Ecology Camp offers campers safe, comfortable
and fun group housing residences with a central dining hall for meals.
Beaches, fields, hedgerows and their vegitation and animal habitat are
steps from the dormitories.
Campers
are led by experienced teachers, examiners and university science students
who will engage the teens in daily learning activities that include
experiments, projects and interactive, hands-on learning. Other Counsellors
and staff will supervise campers throughout the day. Students will
return home after the Knockadoon Ecology Camp better prepared for their
State Exams with knowledge, memories and friendships that will last
them a lifetime.
